The Life and Lives of Ethan AndersonWell, really just life, but lives sounds more exciting!
The Exposition
I was born in the spring of 1987 in a small town named after Pot. I fear it's true. They loved their pot, and somehow, my mother happened to be there as well. Hmmmmmmm.....curious. Just kidding, my mom is the epitome of cleanliness and drugfreeness...I just made up a word! Really, I was born in Pennsylvania.
The Preface
My mother and father met at BYU-Provo, and decided to have six children. My father wanted twelve, so we could be the Twelve Tribes of Anderson, but my mom wasn't too keen on the whole tribe thing. Half a tribe seemed fine with her. Of this half tribe of six, I am the happy fourth child. I like to call myself a middle child, because really, who can fit in the space between three and four? Casper?
The Plot Thickens
My Father was a civil engineer at this time, so I happened to be the fourth child to be born in a different state. We all owned our own states, it's pretty cool. Wisconsin, Nevada, California, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania.......what?! Oh yeah, my younger brother ruined that pattern. How inconsiderate! But I still love him :) Continuing on......Maryland. Yep my little sister was born in the land of the crabs! Since my birth, we have lived in a total of five different states. Needless to say, I made a lot of friends.
When I was five, my dad decided he wanted to be a dentist, so that's the cause behind one of our moves. We spent five years there, and now we live in Blackfoot, Idaho. Before this, the longest place we'd ever lived was Nebraska. My mom promised we'd only be here for five years, but we've now been here for twelve! I guess we like it.
Currently
I am a student at the wonderful, little-but-rapidly-growing college of Brigham Young University-Idaho. Yes, I do belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and love it! We are Christian, by the way, our whole lives and and theology revolve around Jesus Christ, no matter what they say. Sounds like a song, "No matter what they say." Oh wait, it is! :) My major is Biology, which sometimes I lay awake at night and wonder why, and my minor is business management. *Update* My major is now Business Management with a minor in Chemistry. The idea was to be a dentist like my dad, but I'm not too sure about that anymore!
The Climax
I've always loved to read. I'm not sure where that love came from, but it's been an unchanging landmark; a strong foundation which I can always count on or even fall back to if times get hard. Now that I think about it, I actually owe my love for reading to my Dad. He changed careers pretty late in his lifetime, so much of my childhood occurred during his second college experience. We didn't have much money, so my dad would come up with many cheap and free activities to bring us all together. Teaching tennis, bowling, playing video games at Best Buy---there were many, but my favorite activity was the almost weekly visit to the humongous libraries of Lincoln, Nebraska. I loved living near that capitol! We would show up in the morning and spend all day engrossed in the thousands, maybe even millions, of books available to us. So yes, my dad is the source of my reading addiction.
In high school, I found another love--and no, not my wife! Even though I did have crushes on a few people ;) It was writing. Creative writing. My English teacher, of my sophomore and senior years, lured, wrestled, and mentally coerced hidden volumes of literary prose out of my large-but-very-thick skull. Oh I hated research papers and that awful thing called parenthetical documentation, but I loved to be given a topic and have the opportunity to create my own story or opinion. I say "create" my opinion, because I'm not much of a thinker. Many of the ideas and themes pertaining to his class, I had never seriously thought about before. I would love to say that Mr. Gardner transformed me into an intellectual and creative genius, but alas, that is not so! I'm still very much myself ;) But he did foster a love for writing in my soul. Have I done much with Mr. Gardner's gift? Outside of college courses--not really. But I know it's there, and I have a strong desire to draw it out from within. I'd say it's become another landmark in my life.
Resolution and Conclusion
A work in progress!
Other Interests
You already know I'm an avid reader, so there's not much more to say! Well...maybe a little. ;)I love getting groups together and having fun, especially to play games. Board games, card games, musical chairs, and night games, I love them all! Tennis, hiking, ultimate frisbee, even frisbee golf are some of the outside activities that I enjoy. I'm not much of a movie person...I'd much rather play, but when I do watch a tv series, it is usually Smallville or Chuck. Though I'd pick Chuck over Smallville any day! Smallville has gotten slightly dark and dramatic. But hey, it's a tv show, so it's needed. My best friend is a Star Wars and Lord of the Rings fanatic, so by rule, I'm one too. A very mild down version of the original. But I do like them. Heck, if I'm willing to dress up in costume for my friend to go to a Star Wars premier--I think I should get some credit.
